Protection against minor risks
Class I gloves are subject to EN 420: 2003 + A1: 2009. This standard defines the general design, safety, comfort and efficiency criteria applicable to all gloves and protective sleeves.
Class I gloves are also subject to a marking requirement on the glove and instructions for use in their packaging.
The conditions for obtaining the standard EN 420: 2003 + A1: 2009 are as follows:
-
Gloves must offer the highest degree of protection in order to ensure optimal safety for the user.
-
The seams must not injure the user and must be strong enough not to reduce the performance of the glove.
-
The materials must not injure the user.
-
The gloves should be neutral pH, ie between 3.5 and 9.5.
-
The chromium (VI) content should be less than 3 mg / kg on leather gloves.
-
Substances that may cause allergies should be mentioned in the glove instruction leaflet (latex glove specificity).
-
If washing instructions are given, the performance of the glove must not be altered by washing.
-
Gloves should allow maximum finger mobility (dexterity) depending on the required level of protection.
-
The standard also specifies requirements for the transmission and absorption of water vapor.
-
Special rules apply for antistatic gloves which must be tested according to EN 1149.
-
Use of gloves that are too large may increase the risk of accidents. It is therefore important to choose the right size (see table below).
Size | Hand circumference (mm) | Length (mm) | Length of the glove (mm) |
6 | 152 | 160 | 220 |
