Class I gloves are subject to EN 420: 2003 + A1: 2009. This standard defines the general design, safety, comfort and efficiency criteria applicable to all gloves and protective sleeves.

The conditions for obtaining the standard EN 420: 2003 + A1: 2009 are as follows:

  • Gloves must offer the highest degree of protection in order to ensure optimal safety for the user.

  • The seams must not injure the user and must be strong enough not to reduce the performance of the glove.

  • The materials must not injure the user.

  • The gloves should be neutral pH, ie between 3.5 and 9.5.

  • The chromium (VI) content should be less than 3 mg / kg on leather gloves.

  • Substances that may cause allergies should be mentioned in the glove instruction leaflet (latex glove specificity).

  • If washing instructions are given, the performance of the glove must not be altered by washing.

  • Gloves should allow maximum finger mobility (dexterity) depending on the required level of protection.

  • The standard also specifies requirements for the transmission and absorption of water vapor.

  • Special rules apply for antistatic gloves which must be tested according to EN 1149.

  • Use of gloves that are too large may increase the risk of accidents. It is therefore important to choose the right size (see table below).

Size Hand circumference (mm) Length (mm) Length of the glove (mm)
6 152 160 220
